NIAGARA FALLS —

Joseph Gambino, Sr., 83, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on October 22, 2013 at Our Lady of Peace Rehab Center in Lewiston, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Julian and Mary Gambino.
Joe attended local schools and graduated from LaSalle High School. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War until his honorable discharge. On May 3, 1952, Joseph married Lorretta C. Rufrano at St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Lorretta predeceased him on August 20, 1993. Mr. Gambino was a member of the Cement Mason Local 111 and worked as a plaster and cement finisher. He also owned and operated Gambino & Ferantte Plastering and Fireproofing in Niagara Falls, NY from 1969-1978. Joseph was known as a master craftsman and was extremely talented with his plaster work. His greatest accomplishment was assisting in the production of the Equibank Building, a 55-floor skyscraper located in Pittsburgh, PA. Joseph was an avid sports fan who enjoyed to golf and bowl. In 2009, he was inducted into the Niagara Falls Bowling Hall of Fame. Above all, his greatest pleasure in life was spending time with his grandsons and watching them play football.
Mr. Gambino is survived by his son, Joseph (Dianne Borelli) Gambino, Jr.; his loving grandsons, Vinny, Joey, Nick and Danny Gambino; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Joseph was predeceased by his brothers, Julian (Frances of Las Vegas, NV) Gambino and Charles "Curley" (late Rose) Gambino.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 25th from 4-8 PM at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will be begin on Saturday, October 26th at 9:30 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Vincent De Paul Parish at Prince of Peace Church, 1055 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY with Military Honors.
