NIAGARA FALLS —
Donald K. Maggard, Sr., a longtime resident of the area, died on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at home. He was 76. Born in Harland, KY on November 28, 1936, the son of the late Dillard and Rose Maggard, and moved to Niagara Falls at the age of 14.
Mr. Maggard retired in 1989 from Niagara Steel Finishing. He was a member of the Forestview Church of God, taking great pleasure in maintaining equipment and cleaning the church for the Lord. An avid walker, hunter and fisherman, he loved the sport of archery sharing his passion teaching children about it and hunting. At the age of 75, he took his last buck. He was a member of a bow hunters group that met at Niagara Community Church.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Marjorie (Higgs) Maggard; three children, Joseph (Donna) Maggard of Columbus, OH, Donald K. (Valerie) Maggard, Jr. of Niagara Falls and Viola Taylor of the Town of Niagara; a sister, Viola Donovan of Florida; a brother, George Maggard of Niagara Falls; brother-in-law, Paul Pardee of Lewiston; grandchildren, Krysta (Wes) Alexinas of California, Kara (Jay) Jaggers of Ohio, Kyle and Travis Maggard, Lynette and Michele Maggard and Brett Taylor; two great-grandchildren, Jett Jaggers and Finnaley Alexinas; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Denvil Maggard; and a sister, Shirley Pardee.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 AM in Forestview Church of God, 1250 Saunders Settlement Road, Niagara Falls. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston. Memorials, in his name, may be made to the church.
