Jean (nee McCartney) Beales, 87, of Tonawanda, NY, passed away suddenly on Sunday, February 17, 2013 in Buffalo General Hospital in Buffalo, NY. Born on April 10, 1925 in Newburgh, NY, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Elizabeth (Scullion) McCartney.
Mrs. Beales came to Niagara Falls, NY, as a child, with her family. Jean attended local schools and graduated from the former St. Mary's High School in 1942. On June 20, 1959, she married Donald Beales in St. Mary of the Cataract Church. Following their marriage, they moved to Tonawanda, NY. For twenty years, Mrs. Beales worked as a data processor for E. I. DuPont and from 1962 until her retirement in 1994, Jean was employed by Niagara University as the Assistant to the Registrar. She attended St. Mary of the Cataract Church. Mrs. Beales had a pure, gentle heart that touched everyone who knew her. Jean was always a kid at heart who loved to go to the carnival and ride the amusement rides in which she used her relatives' and friends' children to do so. Mrs. Beales had a love for her Irish doll collection and enjoyed traveling.
In addition to her beloved husband of fifty-three years, Mrs. Beales is survived by one sister, Marie Phelan of Buffalo, NY; nieces and nephews, Patrick (Deborah Linett) Conway of Manchester, NH, John Phelan, Jr. of New York City, Mary Theresa Phelan of Buffalo, NY, James Phelan of Rochester, NY, Kate Phelan of California and Trish Phelan of Buffalo, NY; and many great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by three siblings, William Conway, Margaret McCartney and Hugh Patrick McCartney.
The family will be present to receive friends on Friday, February 22nd from 11:00 AM to 1:15 PM in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (297-9007) where funeral services will begin on Friday (following visitation) at 1:15 PM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 PM which will be celebrated in St. Mary of the Cataract Church, 259-4th Street, Niagara Falls, NY. Entombment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
