Nancy Jean McDonell

LaSALLE — Nancy Jean (Morrison) McDonell, a longtime resident of LaSalle, died on Friday, March 15, 2013 in ElderWood Health Care at Oakwood. She was 77. She was born in Harrisburg, PA on January 10, 1936, the daughter of Kinsel and Lila Jean (Heil) Morrison. She and her family moved to Niagara Falls when she was a child, attending local schools.

Later in life, after her children were settled, Nancy continued her education, receiving her RN from Niagara County Community College in 1976.  She was in Who's Who in American Junior Colleges and Deans List 1975-76. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Gerontology from D'Youville in 1984, Dean's List, and National Dean's List 1981-82, and Kappa Gamma Phi National Honor Society member. She received her Bachelor's        Degree in Nursing from Niagara University in 1994, Dean's List, and National Dean's List in 1993-94, and was on the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for Nursing Gamma Theta Chapter. She was employed by Schoellkopf Health Care Facility as a Nursing Supervisor and retired from ElderWood Health Care at Riverwood as Director of Nursing in 1994.

She was active with the Girl Scouts as a troop leader, was a member of PEG serving as President, and directed Alzheimer's Support Group meetings in Niagara Falls for several years. Nancy enjoyed gardening, music, playing the piano and was an avid Buffalo Bills fan.

Survivors include her husband, Alfred McDonell; seven children, Cynthia Myers McNally (Gary) of Brockport; Rose McDonell of Lewiston; Irene McDonell of Niagara Falls; George McDonell (Nancy) of Niagara Falls; Brett McDonell (Jane) of Taberg, NY; Nanette McDonell Broeker of Niagara Falls and Alfred McDonell, Jr. of Syracuse, NY; siblings, Ann Weisenfluh of Florida and Butch Morrison of Nevada; 15 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Tuesday from 2-5 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo   Avenue, where the Rev. Laura Norris-Buisch will conduct services at 5 PM. The interment will be private in Oakwood Cemetery, Niagara Falls. Memorials, if desired, may be made to The Alzheimer's Association of WNY, 2805 Wehrle Drive, Suite 6, Williamsville, NY 14221.
