NIAGARA FALLS —

Patrick Noel Mackenna, Sr., 70, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed from this life, unexpectedly, on Monday, April 29, 2013 at his residence. Born on March 17, 1943 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Albert and Mildred Mackenna.
Mr. Mackenna was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY. Pat, as he was known by family and friends, attended local schools and graduated from the former Bishop Duffy High School. Later, he earned his Master's Degree in Education from Niagara University. Mr. Mackenna proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, during the Vietnam War, from October 9, 1961 until his honorable discharge on February 23, 1966.  While serving, Pat was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. In 1966, he married the former Patricia L. Schoninger. She predeceased him in January of 2009. Mr. Mackenna was employed by the Niagara Falls School District as a Health and History Teacher, where he taught at Gaskill for a good part of his career. Pat retired in 1998. He attended St. Mary of the Cataract Roman Catholic Church. In addition to his teaching career, Mr. Mackenna coached a variety of sports in the Niagara Falls School District. Pat also served as a Volunteer for Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. He was an avid golfer, who was a member of Frontier Country Club, where he made two Holes-In-One.
Mr. Mackenna is survived by four sons, Christopher (Carla) Mackenna of Lewiston, NY, Timothy Mackenna of Niagara Falls, NY, Patrick N. (Lisa) Mackenna, Jr. of Grand Island, NY and Michael Mackenna of Bogota, Columbia; and five grandchildren, Kalie Mackenna, Megan Mackenna, Allison Mackenna, Dylan Ostertag-Mackenna and Layla Mackenna. Pat is also survived by three sisters, Kathleen (late James) Stone of Amherst, NY, Marjorie (Steven) Shaneman of Sun City, FL and Elaine Mark of Niagara Falls, NY. He was also predeceased by two sisters, Maureen (late Donald) Shomers and Geraldine (John of Kenosha, WI) Daniels.
The family will be present to receive friends on Wednesday from 6-9 PM and on Thursday from 3-7 PM in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (716-297-9007). Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, concluding with military honors, on Friday, May 3rd at 10:00 AM which will be celebrated in St. Mary of the Cataract Church, 259-4th Street, Niagara Falls, NY, with Rev. Jacek Mazur serving as celebrant. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT THE CHURCH. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Upstate New York Chapter, 1650 South Avenue, Suite 100, Rochester, NY 14620.
