Charles A. Scime

NIAGARA FALLS — Charles A. Scime, 88, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday,      January 26, 2014, under the care of Niagara Hospice. He was born on September 7, 1925 in Niagara Falls, NY to the late Vito and Constance (Ferrara) Scime.

Charles graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1943. A member of the "Greatest         Generation", he served honorably in the United States Army, 107th Medical Battalion, from March 29, 1944 until his honorable discharge on July 27, 1946. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations, Philippine Liberation, receiving 2 bronze battle stars and a Purple Heart. On September 11, 1948, he married the love of his life, Doreen (Infelise) Scime in Toronto, Ontario. Mrs. Scime predeceased him on April 13, 2003.

Charles worked as a metallurgist for the Union Carbide Corporation and Linde in Niagara Falls, NY. He retired and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and friends, both in Niagara Falls and Florida. His passion to entertain with jokes and Orgami Cranes and Wish Boxes will be remembered by many. Charles was a member of the Italian Sons and Daughters (ISDA) Cataract Lodge #240, Italian American War Veterans and other organizations.

Charles is survived by two children,  Charleen Scime of Niagara Falls, NY and Mark (Deborah Winker) Scime of Winter Garden, FL; four grandsons, Anthony and Vincent (Jennifer) Gallo and Michael and Daniel (Angela) Scime; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Ann (late Nicholas) Conte; and aunt, Mary (late Nicholas) Vilardo; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be Friday from 3-8 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will begin on Saturday, February 1st at 11:15 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 Noon at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 27th St. and Independence Ave., Niagara Falls, NY, with Rev. Duane Klizek officiating. Entombment with military honors in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094, or to a charity of one's choice.
