Eleanor Brooks Matthews

CHICAGO, IL — Eleanor Brooks Matthews was born on Friday, April 29, 1949 to the union of the late Louis Frank and Clara Mae Brooks.

She attended Niagara Falls High School and graduated in 1967. She later attended Bryant and Stratton Business Institute where she received her Associate's degree. Eleanor then moved to Chicago, IL in 1970 where she began working at Blue Cross/Blue Shield for 27 years.

Later in November of 1971, she married Archie Lee Matthews and from this union, two daughters were born.

Eleanor later joined The Paradise M.B. Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Homer C. Carter. She was a member of the choir and also the president of The Baptist Training Unit until 1997. In March of 1998, Eleanor joined the New Faith M.B. Church under the leadership of the Reverend Dr. Howard Randolph. She helped with the Mother's Board and loved her Sunday School Class.

Eleanor went home to be with the Lord on October 4, 2013. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Michael Jr.; and two brothers and one sister, Colbert, Louis and Gwendolyn.

Eleanor leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters, Toya and Tara (Michael); two grandchildren, Jaihannah and Matthew; one sister, Hazel Brooks; two nieces, Angelia (Charles) and Kiesha; nephew, Kevin; very dear childhood friend for over 60 years, Katherine "Kitty" Carter; and a host of other family members and friends.

Services were held Saturday, October 19, 2013, at New Faith M.B. Church, with Rev. Dr. Howard Randolph officiating in Chicago, IL.
