Eleanor Anna Hunt

NIAGARA FALLS — Eleanor Anna (Naukam) Hunt, surrounded by loved ones, peacefully met her Lord & Savior on Saturday, September 28, 2013, at Schoellkopf Nursing Center, Niagara Falls, NY. Born on June 16, 1929, Eleanor was a lifelong resident of western New York. She was a member of White Memorial Evangelical United Brethren Church in Buffalo from the age of 4 to its dissolution in the 1980s. Her love of music provided many opportunities to be the featured soloist at elementary and secondary school concerts, weddings, funerals and with the church choir. As a teenager, Eleanor enthusiastically volunteered at the Buffalo USO as a way to support the war effort.

On April 10, 1952, she married Arnold Granville Hunt. Mr. Hunt predeceased her on November 30, 1989. Eleanor enjoyed her life as a homemaker and mother, raising six children, caring for grandchildren and serving as "adopted mom" to her children's many friends.

Throughout the majority of her 84 years, Eleanor lived with the constant pain of debilitating  osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia; however, this did not deter her from being as active as possible with her family and church. She trusted the plan God had for her life and although she suffered tremendously, upheld "faith the size of a mustard seed." (Matthew 17:20 KJV) She created and led a bi-weekly Bible study at Schoellkopf and was always available to listen and pray with others. Eleanor's optimistic outlook and sense of humor served as an inspiration to all who came in contact with her. She was an avid bingo player, loyal Bills and Sabres fan, and enjoyed the many activities offered at the nursing home.

Eleanor was predeceased by her sister, Helen Naukam; brothers, Richard and Howard Naukam; cousin, George Leidolph; and former son-in-law, Kenneth J. Till. She is survived by her children, Rev. Jonathan A. Hunt (Debbi) of Pendleton, NY, Dr. Joel H. Hunt, Ph.D. (Dr. Alice, Ph.D.) of Athens, GA, Thomas A. Hunt of North Tonawanda, Cynthia A. (Till) Stonebraker (Craig) of Niagara Falls, NY, Daniel A. Hunt (Terry) of Tonawanda, NY, Victoria R. Hunt of Cheektowaga; as well as her grandchildren, Jonathan W. "Jay" Hunt (Michelle), Adriene Hunt-Bukowski (Tom), Randall A. Hunt (Caitlin M. Hliwa), Sara Danielle Till (Bob Jachimiak), Jessica Hunt, Justin A. Hunt, Kenneth G. Till, Jeremy Curley, Daniel Tyler Hunt and Taylor Hunt; and great-grandchildren, Josh, Marra and Corine Bukowski, Evan O'Connor, Jenna Hunt and Marley Conway. Eleanor is also survived by her brother, William H. Naukam of Webster, NY; sister-in-law, Irene Keller of Hamburg, NY; former daughter-in-law, Rebecca (Davis/Hunt) Strauss (Barry); her friend of 53 years, Karen Phillips (Robert); and dozens of nieces and nephews. She was also known as "Granny" to countless others.

Eleanor chose to be part of the Anatomical Gift Program at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. There will be a program of celebration and memories on Sunday, October 20, 2013, at St. James United Methodist Church, 4661 Porter Road, Niagara Falls, beginning at 2:00 PM, with the Reverend's Daryl Bennett and Greg Crispell officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Cyndi Stonebraker FBO: Eleanor Hunt, 2633 Porter Road, Niagara Falls, NY 14305, to purchase a gift for her much loved friends at the nursing home.
