Sally Downie


Sally (Jeckovich) Downie of Niagara Falls passed away on October 30, 2012. She was 80. She was born in Niagara Falls on February 20, 1932, a daughter of the late Anna (Targosz) and Marijan Jeckovich.
She attended local schools and graduated from the former N.F. High School. She later worked as a teller at Marine Midland Peoples Office, TAM Ceramics in the payroll department, and the N.F. Board of Education as a home school partner and special education teacher assistant retiring in 1989.
Mrs. Downie married Charles J. Downie on May 18, 1963 at Our Lady of the Rosary and they remained happily married until his death. Sally was a Grey Lady at the old St. Marys Hospital for 10 years and later worked as a tour sales agent for Boat N Bus. She enjoyed helping all the visitors who came to see the beautiful Falls. Sally enjoyed her four granddaughters who were the joy of her life. She enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling and arts and crafts. She loved decorating her home for the holidays and was an avid garage saler.
Sally is survived by her daughters, Susan R. Hutter and Marion Bradnam; her son, Charles J. (Bernadette) Downie; granddaughters, Anna and Nina Downie and Rachel Hutter and Emma Louise Bradnam. She is also survived by her siblings, Lewis (late Adeline), Stephen and Catherine Jeckovich of California.
Friends may call on Friday from 4-8 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, where prayers will be said Saturday 9:30 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. John de LaSalle RC Church. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
