Mary K. Kovalyak

BUFFALO — Mary K. (Kobierny/Taczak) Kovalyak, 101, a longtime Niagara Falls resident, passed away on October 13, 2012, at Harbour Health Multi-Care Center in Buffalo, NY. Born and raised in Niagara Falls, NY, Mary was the daughter of the late Francis and Cecilia (Wieloszynski) Kobierny. She was predeceased by her first husband, George Taczak, in 1980; and her second husband, Michael Kovalyak, of Punxsutawney, PA, in 1992; also her brothers, Edward and Alois.

Mary was a former parishioner of Prince of Peace Church. She was a member of the Rosary Society, choir and served as a Religious Education instructor. While living in Punxsutawney, PA in 1986, Mary was a Professed Secular Franciscan in St. Clare Fraternity, SS at Cosmas & Damian Church. She had been employed at E.I. DuPont Company and the former Marine Trust Company Bank in Niagara Falls. Mary was also a volunteer of the American Red Cross, Niagara Falls Chapter, for 31 years.

Mary is survived by her sister, Adele (late Edward) Samulski of New Mexico; nephews,    Frederic (Rosemary) Samulski of New Mexico, and Colonel (Ret.) Paul (Doris) Samulski of Germany; step-daughters, Dorothy (late Robert) Richards of Niagara Falls; and Bernadette (Nicholas) Ordian of the Town of Wheatfield; step-son, Frederick (Virginia) Kovalyak of Colombia, MD.

There will be no prior visitation. Family & friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Jude the Apostle Parish, located at 800 Niagara Falls Blvd., North Tonawanda, NY 14120, on Monday, October 22, 2012, at 10:00 AM, with Reverend Edward Jost officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Burial following in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Arrangements were entrusted to ZAJAC FUNERAL HOME INC. Visit for online condolences.
