Salvatore J. Collura

LEWISTON — Salvatore J. Collura, 94, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2013, at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence, Lewiston, NY. Born August 30, 1918 in Pittsfield, MA, he was the son of the late Guiseppe and Teresa (Picarella) Collura. He came to Niagara Falls as a young child and attended 13th Street/South Junior and graduated from Trott Vocational High School. On September 10, 1946, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Medical Detachment 1st Infantry Regiment during World War II, receiving the  WW II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan. Salvatore was honorably discharged as a Private First Class on June 6, 1947. After his service in the military, he went on to work at Niagara Wallpaper for 12 years and then worked as a groundskeeper for 21 years at Hooker Chemical until his retirement in 1981.

He is survived by his four children, Frank Collura of Oswego, IL, Salvatore (Doreen) Collura of Virginia Beach, VA, Joseph (Bonnie) Collura of Niagara Falls, NY, and Theresa (Jim) Soluri of the Town of Wheatfield, NY. Salvatore is also survived by 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Pasqualina (Brucato) Collura; brothers, Joseph (Kay) Collura, Carmen (Anita) Collura, John Collura; sister, Clara Collura and one great-grandchild.  

No prior visitation. Burial, with military honors, will take place at the convenience of the family in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY, at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to ZAJAC FUNERAL HOME INC.
