Andrew Ernest "Andy" Baxter


Andrew Ernest "Andy" Baxter passed away on Wednesday, June 11, in Hanford, CA, surrounded by his loving family. Andy was born on June 22, 1948 in Rochester, NY. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald F. Baxter, Sr.; and mother, Doris H. Baxter of Youngstown, NY.
Andy is survived by his wife of 39 years, Bonnie Jeanette Baxter; his sons, Dylan Drew Baxter and Joseph Bentham Baxter of Hanford, CA; the light of his life, his precious granddaughter Drew Jeanette Baxter, and soon to be grandson, Robbie; his brothers, Donald F. Baxter, Jr. of Aurora, OH and Frederick J. Baxter; and sister-in-law, Elaine M. Baxter of Lewiston, NY. He also leaves behind, Lysette Spurgeon, Monet O'Neill; his mother-in-law, Rose H. Maciel; several nieces and nephews, and a caring extended family.
Andy served proudly in the US Navy as a member of VA-192 (World Famous Golden Dragons) on board the USS Kitty Hawk during the Vietnam War from 1968-1972. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Fresno State with a master's degree in social work. He was dedicated to helping others and retired from the County of Fresno as a social work supervisor. Andy was an avid New York Yankees fan and Toronto Maple Leafs hockey fan. He was influenced by the works of Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan. Family was most important to him and always first in his life. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
A private interment was held on Thursday, June 19, 2014. Contributions in Andy's memory may be made to Adventist Health Home Care and Hospice, 460 Kings County Dr #105 Hanford, CA 93230. Arrangements under the direction of Whitehurst-McNamara Funeral Service, 100 W. Bush St. Hanford, CA 93230.
