Raymond A. "The Ponz" Ponzi

Raymond A. "The Ponz" Ponzi, a longtime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence after a short illness. He was 77. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY on April 27, 1937, the son of Alexander and Elizabeth (Sette) Ponzi. He attended local schools and was a graduate of the former LaSalle Jr./Sr. High School and served in the National Guard.
A longtime businessman in LaSalle and a member of the LaSalle Business Association, he was known for managing the former Lablaws. For over 37 years, he was the owner and operator of Lou's Lounge, a Cayuga Drive landmark in the community of LaSalle. The family would like to thank all the patrons of this establishment for their years of loyalty and for helping to make his dream a reality. He will be remembered fondly by many as always being the life of the party and for his infamous car rides.  One of his favorite quotes and one that will never be forgotten was "hear me?" "The Ponz" was an avid NY Yankees fan and collector of memorabilia as well as a devoted Buffalo area sports team fan.
He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Prato of Niagara Falls; his granddaughter, Angela and her husband, Jerid Williams, of Tucson, AZ; and many dear friends, patrons and cousins.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 7-9 PM and on Wednesday 2-4, 7-9 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, where prayers will be said Thursday at 9:30 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. John de LaSalle RC Church.
