Anne Elizabeth (Murphy) O'Connor

LEWISTON — Anne E. O'Connor, a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, died Monday at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, NY, from natural causes.

Anne was born on April 7, 1922 in Niagara Falls, NY, and was the only child of Tom and Anna (Bowen) Murphy. She was married to her beloved husband Lloyd James O'Connor for 52 years, who she affectionately called "Lloydie". Lloyd passed away in 2001.

Anne was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and nurse who obtained her RN degree in 1942 from the St. Mary's School of Nursing. Upon graduation, she worked as a nurse in the emergency room at Mount St. Mary's Hospital, and later in her career as an industrial nurse at Bell Aerospace Test Center, Textron, and Occidental. Her husband, Lloyd, was a County Legislator. Anne and Lloyd lived in LaSalle, on 90th Street and later on Bollier Avenue, where they raised their five sons.

Anne is survived by her five sons and daughters-in-law: Patrick and Ellie O'Connor of Estero, FL; Timothy and Louise O'Connor of Big Flats, NY; Kevin and Beverly O'Connor of Sykesville, MD; Danny and Patricia O'Connor of Frederick, MD, and Sean and Doreen O'Connor of Niagara Falls. Her survivors also include her 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: Meredith and husband, John Wissel, Ryan and wife, Lori O'Connor, Meghan O'Connor, Brian O'Connor, Kate and husband, Jason Tauton Rigby, Colin O'Connor, Ashleigh O'Connor, Paige O'Connor, Cassie O'Connor, Molly O'Connor, Brandon O'Connor and Justin O'Connor, and her five great-grandchildren: Max, Penelope, Fletcher, Sierra and Caden.

Anne spoke fondly of her youth and the summers she spent with her cousins in her grandfather's cottage on the Niagara River. Anne loved spending time with her extended family. She was also an avid reader who loved to travel, play bridge, do cross word puzzles and loved dancing the night away with her husband, Lloyd. Her travels took her to Ireland, the Caribbean and to Clearwater, FL, where she and Lloyd spent many winters together. She was a devout and dedicated member of her church, Prince of Peace, where she was active in the Parent-Teacher Association and other church activities. She was also an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Elks Lodge and Bishop Duffy's Mothers Club.

Anne dedicated her life to serving her family, friends and community, and was proud of her    suggestion to Channel 7's Irv Weinstein that he remind parents: "It's 11 o'clock, do you know where your children are?" She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother,     grandmother and friend.

Funeral arrangements will be through the Lane Funeral Home on Buffalo Avenue in Niagara Falls (716)283-9660. Visiting hours will be from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM on Friday. Prayers Saturday 9:30 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Vincent de Paul Parish (Prince of Peace Site), 1055 North Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY 14304, at 10:00 AM on Saturday.
