June L. Morrison

LOCKPORT — June L. Morrison, 89, of Lewiston, NY, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Niagara Hospice House, Lockport, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Niagara Falls, NY on September 16, 1923 to the late James A. and Louise (Downs) Wilson. June graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1941 and attended classes at NCCC, and three years for continuing education at Syracuse University, where she received her certification as a Municipal Clerk.

June was a Gray Lady with the American Red Cross during WWII, an active member of the Catholic Daughters of America, St. Theresa's Mothers Club, St. Francis Guild, St. Peter's Mothers Club, St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church Rosary and Altar Society, Femmes En Force, Lewiston Womens Business & Professional Assoc. (Vice President) and the Queenston Golf Club. She was President of the New York State Society of Municipal Finance Officers, President of the New York State Association of City and Village Clerks and a Director of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks Executive Committee.

June was employed at Chisholm-Ryder, Niagara Falls, Marine Midland Bank and was the Clerk/Treasurer for the Village of Lewiston for 19 years, and after her retirement was employed by DeRivier Jewelers in Lewiston. She enjoyed bowling, skiing, golfing and playing cards with friends at the Lewiston Senior Center, her Tuesday womens group, and friends in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

June was very proud of her long-time ties to Lewiston. Her mother was born in the Academy (after it closed it became a boarding house). Her great-grandmother and great-grandfather were the first couple married in the old St. Peter's Church, where her sons, Danny and Jack were later altar boys.

June is survived by her son, John "Jack" Morrison of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; daughter-in-law, Katherine Morrison; sisters, Dorothy (Kenneth) Halliday, Sally (Lance) (Diemont) Vidrine and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends in Lewiston and Ft. Lauderdale where she spent her winters. She was predeceased by her husband, John T. Morrison; loving son, Danny Morrison and sister, Betty (Rick) Lindsay.

Friends may call at the HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts., Lewiston, on Thursday from 4-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday (May 24) at 11:00 AM from St. Peter's RC Church, 620 Center St., Lewiston, with Rev. Michael Zuffaletto officiating. (PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH.) Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Memorials may be made in her memory to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094.
