Joan Elizabeth Mears Ward was born in Barrington, New Jersey on October 11, 1933, the daughter of James H. and Edith Pennypacker Mears. Her sister, Janet Marie Mears, was born on November 10, 1932, and died one day later. Two brothers, Charles J. (Mickey) Mears and Henry P. (Ellen) Mears survive her.

She worked during her senior year and two more years after graduation at Cooper Hospital in the Accounts Payable/Payroll Department. She then worked for Thomas F. Salter, attorney, and then for Ward Wheelock Advertising Company in Philadelphia, until their closing. Then she worked for William Whitehead, stockbroker, until she moved to Niagara Falls in November 1954. She worked for attorneys in Niagara Falls and then worked at Marine Trust Co. in the Mortgage Dept. After her first six children, Joan worked for Dr. Boris A. Golden and then for Dr. Willard Ruth. After the birth of her last child, Douglas, she worked for 15 years as secretary at Bacon Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Six grandchildren survive, of whom she is so proud, Matthew and Christina Ward, Thomas and Katherine Dean, Addison and Nathan Ward.
Joan was a Eucharist Minister at St. John de LaSalle Church. She had been a member of St. John de LaSalle R.C. Church for the past six years. She loved gardening and growing many flowers. She loved having family dinners for all occasions. Joan had the most glorious friends on this earth who were so dear to her heart. Many of God's precious angels on earth have touched her all of her life. She anxiously awaited the day she could be reunited with her beloved husband, Tom.
May God greatly bless each one of her children, grandchildren, relatives and friends for all eternity.
