Rachel Faye Gozdowiak


Rachel Faye Gozdowiak, of Sanborn, NY, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2013, in Niagara Hospice House, Lockport, NY.  She was born in Mabelvale, AR, on August 13, 1924, the daughter of the late Robert and Nora (Adams) Hobby.
Mrs. Gozdowiak moved to Wheatfield in 1952 and later to Sanborn. She was employed by Colato manufacturing for a short time until she retired to take care of her grandchildren. Earlier in life, Rachel and her husband Matt enjoyed spending weekends at their trailer in Jasper, NY. She enjoyed growing upside-down tomatoes. While at Niagara Rehabilitation, where she had lived for the past year and half, she acquired the nickname of Chicken Wing because she enjoyed her once a month chicken wing parties with her family.
Mrs. Gozdowiak was the wife of the late Mathew Gozdowiak, who died in January of 2004. They were married on May 17, 1952. She is survived by one daughter, Irene F. (Daniel) Kummer of Sanborn; two grandchildren, John Kummer and Karen Kummer; two sisters-in-law, Cecelia Amsdill and Veronica Janik; also many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gozdowiak was the sister of the late Gladys Terranova, Maxine Summerville, Cassie Janik and Bernie Hobby.
The family will be present on Sunday from 4-8 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, 4671 Townline Road, Ransomville, NY, with the Rev. Joseph P. Badding officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made in her name to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY  14094. Interment at Wheatfield Cemetery, Town of Wheatfield, NY.
