Viola V. Mezhir Torcasio

NEWFANE — Viola V. Mezhir Torcasio, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2013, in  Eastern Niagara Hospital,  Newfane, NY.

She was  born in Ganoe, PA, on September 11, 1922, the daughter of the late Dominick and  Elizabeth (Caretti) Trunzo.

Mrs. Torcasio moved to Niagara Falls with her family in 1925. She was a practical nurse at  Memorial Medical Center and with Dr. Sass office, and later became a police matron with the Niagara Falls Police Department for over 10 years.

Mrs. Torcasio was a member of New York State Nurses Association and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, drawing, reading and doing ceramics.

Mrs. Torcasio was the wife of the late Samuel Torcasio, who died in 2008, and the late James Mezhir, who died in 1976.

She is survived by two sons, James A. (Tricia) Mezhir of Lewiston, NY and Daniel D. Mezhir of Niagara Falls, NY; five grandchildren, Dr. James (Priya), John (Jen), Tim, Dan and Brittany Grace Mezhir; five great-grandchildren, Malinee, Anjali, Kate, Jack and Max. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Torcasio was the sister of the late Michael and Joseph Trunzo and Angeline Meogrossi.

The family will be present on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM  at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Michael P. Zuffoletto officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery,  Lewiston, NY.
