Othmar H. "Bud" Gerber, longtime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at Our Lady of Peace. He was 93. He was born in St. Mary's, PA on December 19, 1919, a son of the late Andrew and Bertha (Herzing) Gerber.
Mr. Gerber attended Pennsylvania schools and then entered the United States Army serving during World War II in the Philippine Theater. He married Ann Bonghi on October 12, 1943, celebrating their 69th wedding anniversary in October.
Mr. and Mrs. Gerber moved to Niagara Falls after World War II. He was employed as a sheet metal worker for many years at Croisdale and Thompson Roofing, and for Niagara County in maintenance. He was a longtime member of St. John de LaSalle Church and its Holy Name Society, and he enjoyed woodworking, gardening and flowers.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ann (Bonghi) Gerber; three children, Dr. William (Alyssa) Gerber of Lewiston, Carol Ann (Michael) Manning of Avon, NY, and Jeff (Natalie) Gerber of Chili, NY. He is also survived by his sister, Celine Singer of St. Mary's, PA; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by siblings, Rita Cotter, Dorothy Gerber, James Gerber, Regis "Percy" Gerber and Robert Gerber.
Friends may call at the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, on Friday from 4-7 PM, where prayers will be said Saturday at 9 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. John de LaSalle Church, 8477 Buffalo Avenue. Entombment will be in Gate of Heaven Mausoleum in the Town of Lewiston. In lieu of flowers, memorials, if desired, may be made to Gerber Small Animal, Spay the Stray's Fund, 3316 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY 14304.
