Grace E. Mekjean

NIAGARA FALLS — Grace E. Mekjean, 91, was born, lived and raised a family in Niagara Falls, NY. She went to be with her Lord after a short illness on April 24, 2014. Active as a longtime member of The Chapel at Crosspoint in Getzville, NY, she worked as the assistant director to the Senior Ministries called Golden Eagles for 14 years, and served as a leader for women's bible studies and encouragement ministries to women of all ages. Over the years, as the effects of a stroke in 2005 removed physical abilities, her presence by phone with encouragement for others became evident. For several years she was involved in leadership with WNY Christian Women's Clubs, Recovery Incorporated, and remained active with her husband at Camp Li Lo Li, a Christian camp and retreat location near Salamanca, NY. In her younger years she worked full-time for 12 years at Moore Business Forms in Niagara Falls, and when her children were in local schools she served on committees with the Niagara Falls Board of Education. She loved people and used her life and abilities to discover, serve and encourage others.

Grace is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, Matthew; three children, Sharon (late Robert) Vautin of Wheaton, IL, Marcia (John) Donahue of Springville, and Jonathan (Sharon) Mekjean of Buffalo. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Jonathan (Carolyn) Kiddy, Joshua (Jennifer) Kiddy, Kristin (Aaron) Acker, Justin Mekjean and Amy Vautin; and seven great-grandchildren, Joshua, Olivia Grace, Eli, Jayden, Bryce, Jiana and Adina Grace, as well as three step-grandchildren and their families.

The family held a private funeral and burial. All are welcome to attend a memorial service at The Chapel at Crosspoint, 500 Crosspoint Parkway, Getzville, NY 14068, in celebration of Grace's life and ministry to others on Sat., May 10, at 11 AM. Memorials may be made to the "Comfort and Care Ministries" at The Chapel at Crosspoint. Arrangements by LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC.
