Zetta Ruth Bauer

NIAGARA FALLS — Zetta Ruth (nee Yaseen) Bauer, in the care of Niagara Hospice, passed on to her next assignment peacefully April 22, 2014. She was born on August 20, 1917 in Elmira, NY, daughter of the late Lewis and Helen Yaseen. She was a 1937 graduate of Niagara Falls High School and attended the former Lewis Hotel School in Washington, DC. She also studied manual engraving at Bradley University in Peoria, IL. With this skill and her husband's watch making, they operated a jewelry store in Eldorado, TX for 10 years before returning to the Western New York area. Additionally, Mrs. Bauer worked for 21 years, after her what would be normal retirement age, at the Top-of-the-Falls gift shop on Goat Island, finally retiring when she was 93. She was honored in the local newspapers and in a television news feature at the time of her 90th birthday while still working. She relished the training that she had received and prided herself in being able to greet foreign visitors in their country's language.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her late husband, Ernest in 1991, and her brother, Benjamin Yaseen. She is survived by three children, Karl Ernest (June) of North Tonawanda, Helen Frances (Chuck) of Gasport, Benjamin Lewis of Stamford, CT; two grandchildren, Karl Anthony and Jeffrey Lewis, both of Niagara Falls, as well as two great-grandchildren, Dominic Anthony Sandonato and Kaitlyn Josephine Bauer of Niagara Falls.

Zetta will be remembered as a witty individual who was always able to put a humorous spin on almost any situation, and was generous to all those that she encountered.

There will be no visitation and a memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of        flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the North Tonawanda Meals on Wheels, 100 Ridge Street, North Tonawanda, NY 14120, a charitable organization that she was very fond of, or Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY  14094.  Arrangements, LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC.
