Peter "Bedros" Stepanian, 78, of Niagara Falls, NY, died on Saturday, June 22, 2013, following a brief illness at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Sarkis and Haiganoush "Agnes" (Kayayian) Stepanian.
Bedros, as he was also known to his family and friends, was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY. He graduated from Niagara Falls High School and later attended Niagara County Community College in Sanborn, NY. He served in the U.S. Army as a Private 1st Class E3 from December 6, 1956 until his honorable discharge on December 5, 1958. Peter was employed by ConRail as a locomotive engineer and retired in 1998 after thirty years of service. He was a member of the Armenian/American Veterans Club and was also a loyal supporter of many Armenian and veteran organizations. Pete loved the opera and enjoyed studying Armenian history and culture. He also liked reading, playing Scrabble and spending time with his beloved cat, Daisy.
Peter is survived by one sister, Margaret (Leonard) DiLudovico of Leetonia, OH; his dearest friend, Janet Markarian of Niagara Falls, NY; several nieces and nephews; his former wife, Mona Stepanian; his beloved step-grandson, Jason Reddecliff, who was instrumental in caring for his "Papa Pete" when needed. He is also survived by numerous friends. He was predeceased by one brother, Leo (Mary) Stepanian; and two sisters, Martha (Setrak) Babikian and Sara (Harry) Sahagian.
There will be no prior visitation. Private funeral services and burial will be held in Oakwood Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY at the convenience of the family. In accordance with the wishes of Mr. Stepanian, his body was donated to the Anatomical Gift Program at the University of Buffalo for medical research.
