NIAGARA FALLS —
Sandra Jane Macadam Coykendall died on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, after an extended illness. Born in Toronto, October 29, 1934 to Maxwell and Jean Barber.
Sandy was an excellent student and athlete. She figure-skated between periods of 1950s Toronto Maple Leafs and played hockey at Victoria College, University of Toronto. With a degree in Home Economics she left for Niagara Falls, NY, and met the love of her life, Robert. While raising a family, she completed a Master of Science in Dietetics at SUNY/UB, managed her career and demonstrated innovative cooking approaches popularized on local television, newsprint and at Artpark.
Sandy was enthusiastic, sharing adventures with family, friends and neighbors residing in Youngstown, NY and abroad. She had an easy manner, a green-thumb and was fond of nature, "her birds" and entertaining. She laughed with friends on her front porch and entered backyard debates during sunset. Good food was her centerpiece and, lucky for her family and many visitors, something was either on the stove or readily made. She created a vibrant home that connects so many friends we enjoy to this day.
Sandy is remembered as a wonderful daughter, wife, grandmother, friend and awesome mother. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Coykendall, and survived by her three sons' families, Glenn and Gillian Coykendall with Cameron, Liam and Carlin of Rochester, NY; Max and Amy Coykendall with Sarah and Katelyn of Youngstown, NY; Edward and Amy Coykendall with Erin and Sean of Littleton, MA.
We are thankful to have shared Sandy's spirit. A family memorial at a later date will celebrate her life.
