John W. LaChance, lifetime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Kenmore Mercy Hospital. He was 72. He was born in Niagara Falls on July 2, 1941, a son of the late John R. and Cecile M. (Allen) LaChance. He attended local schools and was a member of the first graduating class of Niagara-Wheatfield in 1960. He received his bachelor's degree from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, TX on a football scholarship, and he received his master's degree from Niagara University. He taught school in Texas before returning home to begin his 28-year teaching and coaching career at Niagara-Wheatfield. (He was a great coach, mentor and friend to many Niagara-Wheatfield students.)
Mr. LaChance is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Donna (Zappendorf) LaChance; two children, Dawne (Rich) Kurowski and Jon Paul (fiance Lisa Dale) LaChance. He is also survived by three siblings, Cecile (Dave) Marciniak, Gloria (Eddie) Pawlak and Alfred R. (Eileen) LaChance; and several nieces and nephews. The joy of his life were his two beautiful granddaughters, Torrie Lynne Kurowski and Olivia "Livie" LaChance. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Marcel J., Paul and Armand J. LaChance.
Friends may call at the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, on Saturday from 4-8 PM. Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in North Ridge Cemetery in the Town of Cambria. Flowers are gratefully declined.
