Leonard R. Miller, Jr.

LEWISTON — Leonard R. Miller, Jr., a longtime resident of Niagara Falls, died on Thursday, May 9, 2013 in Mount St. Mary's Hospital. He was 69. Born in Barnesville, PA on March 3, 1944, he was a son of the late Leonard and Catherine (Lesicko) Miller.  He and his family moved to Niagara Falls when he was a child, attended schools and was a graduate of the former LaSalle Senior High School.

Mr. Miller was employed by the Carborundum Company for 19 years and retired from the  Niagara Falls Board of Education in 2010 after 22 years. While with the board, he worked at the former Niagara Middle School from its inception to its closing, and received the Employee of the Year award in 1999.

An avid outdoorsman and deer hunter, Leonard spent many happy times at his camp in Scio, NY, and wonderful memories of a special trip to Disney World with his family and grandchildren. He also enjoyed working with wood. He was a member of St. Mary of the Cataract RC Church and the NRA, and a former member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Barbara Irving Miller; three children, Christine Dobrasz (Stanley), James Miller (Jennifer) and Thomas Miller, all of Niagara Falls; a brother, Robert Miller (late Fran) of Niagara Falls; his sister-in-law, Linda Stackow of Niagara Falls; ten grandchildren, Jessica, Stephanie, Susan, Rebecca, Samantha, Andrew, David, Stephen, Michael and Duncan; lifelong best friend, Ed Degenhardt of Niagara Falls; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call Monday from 2-4, 6-9 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday 10 AM in St. Mary of the Cataract RC Church, 259-4th Street, Niagara Falls. PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. The interment will be in Acacia Park Cemetery, Pendleton, NY. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Make a Wish Foundation or to the NRA.
