Rev. Salvatore J. Cusimano

KENMORE — Rev. Salvatore J. Cusimano, 92, of Tonawanda, NY, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 5, 2013 in McAuley Residence in Kenmore, NY, after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Buffalo, NY on September 1, 1920, the son of the late Michael and Mary      (Ruggieri) Cusimano.

He graduated from St. Joseph Collegiate Institute, Canisius College and Our Lady of the Angels Seminary at Niagara University. Fr. Cusimano was ordained June 4, 1949 in St. Joseph's New Cathedral in Buffalo by Bishop John F. O'Hara. Following his ordination he served in the Missionary Apostolate for one year. From 1950 until 1966, Fr. Cusimano served as Parochial Vicar at Holy Trinity Parish in Dunkirk, Most Precious Blood Parish in Angola, Our Lady of Loretto Parish in Buffalo, St. John Parish in Jamestown, and St. Bartholomew Parish in Buffalo. From 1966 until his retirement in 1983, Fr. Cusimano served as Pastor of St. John Bosco Parish in Sheridan, NY.

He was a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus and served as Chaplain of the Catholic Nurses League. His interests included music and sports, and he was an avid New York Yankees fan.

He is survived by a sister, Rita Whelan of DeLand, FL, and several nieces and nephews. Fr. Cusimano was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Nicholas of Syracuse, NY, who passed away May 3, 2013.

The family will be present to receive friends Thursday 3-8 PM at the (Delaware Chapel) AMIGONE FUNERAL HOME INC., 1132 Delaware Ave. Fr. Cusimano will lie in state Friday morning from 9:00-10:00 AM at St. Margaret's Church, 1395 Hertel Avenue, Buffalo, where a concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 AM. Most Rev. Richard J. Malone, D.D., Bishop of Buffalo will be principal celebrant. Friends invited.
