D. Jean (Young) Soper, longtime resident of Niagara Falls and a five-year resident of Heritage Manor in Lockport, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Briody Health Care Facility in Lockport. She was 94. She was born in Burnt River, Ontario on April 26, 1919, a daughter of Arthur and Elizabeth (Hughes) Young. She attended Burnt River Elementary School and graduated from St. Michael's Hospital Nursing School in Toronto, Ontario. She married Donald M. Soper in June 1944 and they moved to Niagara Falls after World War II. They remained happily married until Mr. Soper's passing in 2006. Mrs. Soper worked at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for several years after WWII, and then began her career as the school nurse at LaSalle Jr./Sr. High School from 1956 to 1972.
Mrs. Soper, a longtime member of Riverside Presbyterian Church, enjoyed her time with her family and her pet cat.
She is survived by her children, Susan Soper of Norcross, GA and Keith Soper of Buffalo. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Ave., on Sunday from 2-4 PM, where funeral services will be held at 4 PM, with Pastor Laura Norris-Buisch officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in N.F. Memorial Park Cemetery in the Town of Lewiston. Flowers gratefully declined.
