NIAGARA FALLS —
Bernard J. Curyto, 90, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at VA Medical Center in Buffalo, NY, surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 31, 1923 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late John and Pauline (Janik) Curyto and attended local schools. He was married to Dorothy M. (Zanski) Curyto, who predeceased him on January 30, 2013.
On March 30, 1943, he entered the US Army, serving in Northern France, Rhineland Central Europe, with the Battery C 217th Field Artillery Battalion as a gun crewman during World War II. He received the Good Conduct Medal, WW II Victory Medal, American Theater Campaign Medal, and EAME Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars and was honorably discharged on November 17, 1945 as a Private 1st Class. After serving his country, he was employed by the Niagara Falls Gazette as a pressman.
He is survived by his children, Thomas (Lynne) Curyto of Pennsylvania, Deborah Curyto of Sanborn, NY; grandchildren, Thomas, Jr., Tara, Todd, Corey Joel and Adam; ten great-grandchildren. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Hank, Stan and Richie; and sisters, Stephania and Dorothy.
Friends and family may call on Wednesday, November 13th from 9-11 AM at ZAJAC FUNERAL HOME, INC., 319-24th St. cor. Welch Ave., Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will begin at 11:30 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 PM at Divine Mercy Parish 24th and Niagara Sts. Burial with Military Honors following in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made towards purchasing a plaque on the Niagara Falls Veteran's Memorial.
