Clifford T. Mayes, Sr.


Clifford T. Mayes, Sr., of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, in the  Niagara Rehabilitation Center, Niagara Falls, NY. Clifford was born to the late William and Elizabeth (Andrus) Mayes in Phillipsburgh, PA on July 11, 1943.
He and his family moved to Niagara Falls, NY in 1956 and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1961.
Clifford married the former Stella Polka in 1963 in St. Stanislaus Kostka R.C. Church on Niagara Street. He served in the New York Army National Guard from 1961-71, where he earned the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Clifford owned and operated Now Graphics Printing on Main Street in Niagara Falls for many years. He also worked for the City of Niagara Falls Automotive Division and Grand Island Biological Co. (GIBCO).
Clifford was an avid reader and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son and brother. He also enjoyed photography, training dogs and his many fish aquariums. He belonged to several clubs and organizations including the 3-F Conservation Club, LaSalle Sportsman's Club, Rotary Club, Echo Club, Kennel Club of Niagara Falls, Niagara Frontier Brittany Club and the WNY Aquarium Society.
In addition to his wife Stella of 50 years, he is survived by his children, Clifford (Iheide) Mayes, Jr., of Niagara Falls, Antoinette (Michael, Sr.) Hetrick of Goldsboro, NC and Paula Bianco of Niagara Falls; grandsons include Michael, Mark Hetrick and Mitchell Mayes; his granddaughters, Katie and Victoria Mayes and Jenna and Nina Bianco; one brother, William (Gloria) Mayes and their children Cheree' Copelin, Joshua and Kasey Mayes. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will be present on Saturday from 10-11 AM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 1124 Ontario Ave., Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM with the Rev. David and Rev. Linda Aaserud officiating.
