Robert V. Darin, 87, of Kenmore, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 7, 2013 in Kenmore Mercy Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY on January 9, 1926 to the late Lucy (Martini) and Attilio Darin.
He attended local schools and was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving during World War II aboard the USS Runner (SS-476) submarine as a radio technician in the Pacific Theater. Mr. Darin married his high school sweetheart, the former Shirley Mae Marchitelli, in 1948 in St. Joseph's R.C. Church in Niagara Falls. He graduated with a civil engineering degree from Clarkson College of Technology, Potsdam, NY. He briefly worked at Bethlehem Steel Corporation before joining Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation in Buffalo, as chief structural engineer for many years. He then worked as senior engineering staff advisor at Higgins Erectors & Haulers, Inc., being named manager at their Niagara District Office in 1982. In addition to collecting all the old Jazz favorites and playing the trumpet, golf was his passion, and he enjoyed many years on the links as a member of the Niagara Frontier Country Club in Youngstown. He was also a lifelong New York Yankees Fan.
In addition to his beloved wife of 65 years, Shirley Mae (Marchitelli) Darin of Kenmore, NY, are their sons, Robert T. (Shirley) Darin of Grand Island, William E. (Marjorie) Darin of East Amherst, NY and Kenneth Barry Darin of Lockport, NY; his grandchildren, Nicole (Dr. Stuart Heimann) Darin-Heimann, Amy (Michael) Stockinger, Joseph (fiance'e Jennifer Mislin) Darin, Lindsey Darin and Ashley (Thomas) Digati; and his two adored great-granddaughters; Alyssa and Audrey Stockinger. Mr. Darin was predeceased by his parents; and his sister, the late Doris Kohlmeier.
The family will be present to receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the (Tonawanda Chapel) AMIGONE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 2600 Sheridan Dr. (cor. Parker). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday morning at 9:15 AM at St. Andrew's Church (Sheridan & Elmwood). Friends invited. (Everyone please assemble at church).
