NIAGARA FALLS —
Stanley S. "Poppy" Surman, 78, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed from this life, unexpectedly, on Saturday, October 19, 2013 in Mercy Hospital of Buffalo. Born on July 8, 1935 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph and Angeline (Piwowarczyk) Surman.
Mr. Surman was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY and attended local schools. On April 16, 1956, Poppy, as he was known by family and friends, married the former Caroline Leo. She predeceased him on December 27, 1997. He was employed as a Fabricator "Tin Knocker", for his families business, Niagara Heating & Sheet Metal. Later, Mr. Surman worked for the Department of Transportation, until his retirement in the late 2000's. Poppy enjoyed collecting coins as well as model cars.
Mr. Surman is survived by two children, Mary Surman-Forster and Stanley S. Surman, both of Niagara Falls, NY and was predeceased by one son, Joseph S. Surman. Poppy is also survived by three grandchildren, Amanda (Rick Sweney, Jr.) Forster and Nicholas and Samantha Forster, all of Niagara Falls, NY; one great-granddaughter, Brookelynn Sweney; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, wife and son, he was also predeceased by three brothers and one sister.
The family will be present to receive friends on Monday, from 4-8 PM. in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (297-9007) where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 22nd at 10:00 AM with Rev. Jacek Mazur officiating. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Lewiston, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to a charity of one's choice.
