Bruce M. Reynolds, Sr., 84, beloved husband of Joan (Trapasso) Reynolds, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 5, 2013 in Our Lady of Peace Health Care Center, after a lengthy illness. He was born January 2, 1929 to the late Francis and Yvonne Reynolds in Niagara Falls, NY, where he remained a lifelong resident.
Bruce was an electrician with Stauffer Chemical Co. and then Carborundum Coated Abrasives after his graduation from Erie Technical Institute. Following his retirement, he had an enthusiasm for the buying, restoration and sale of classic and antique cars. He had a passion for sports, including being a longtime season ticket holder for the Buffalo Bills and attending many Buffalo Bisons baseball and Bandits lacrosse games, in addition to bowling in many leagues and being an avid skier. He had a special love of fast-pitch softball as a player that continued beyond his active playing days. He was the driving force that kept fast-pitch alive in the area from 1968-1993, as commissioner of the former Suburban, Ponzi and Honey's leagues. He was also an accomplished umpire in the area. He was elected to The Niagara Falls Oldtimers Hall of Fame, Niagara Falls Umpires Hall of Fame and The Western New York Softball Hall of Fame.
As an affirmation of his strong belief in the power of education, his body was donated to the UB Medical School to enhance the study of medicine.
His survivors include his beloved wife, Joan M. (nee Trapasso) Reynolds; his five children, Bruce (Sally) Reynolds, Jr., Karen Smith, Dennis (Michele) Reynolds, Keith (Justine) Reynolds and Sidney Reynolds Solley; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a step-son, David (Diana) Cleveley; two siblings, Charles (Faith) Reynolds, Jeanette (Thomas) Steele and many nieces and nephews.
