SSG Scott A. Coe, US Army

FORT BENNING, GA — SSG Scott A. Coe, of Fort Benning, GA, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2013.

He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on November 3, 1975, the son of Arlene (Knarr) Banks,  Michael J. and Susan Coe of Wilson, NY, and Patrick and Dawn Gates of Sanborn, NY.

Scott joined the Army after graduating from high school. He served six combat tours in Iraq and received the following awards and decorations: a Bronze Star Medal, 8 Army Commendation Medals, 5 Army Achievement Medals, 6 Army Good Conduct Medals, a National Defense Service Medal, 6 Iraq Campaign Medals with Campaign Stars, a Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, a Global War on Terrorism 'Service Medal, a Korea Defense Service Medal, 2 Non-commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbons, an Army Service Ribbon, 5 Overseas Service Ribbons, 3 Certificates of Achievement, Combat Action Badge  Drivers & Mechanics Badge with Wheeled Vehicle Bar Driver & Mechanics Badge with Tracked Vehicle Bar. Scott enjoyed spending time with his family and friends; also biking and spending time outdoors.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by four sisters, Danielle (Robert) Ferry, Toni Marie Coe, Patricia (Jason) Maier and Laura (Keith) Gates; one brother, Shawn (Debbie) Gates and the uncle of Gabrielle, Emily, Dawn, Brandon, Alyssa, and several other nieces and nephews. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was the grandson of the late Mary "Dolly" Miller.

The family will be present on Monday from 5-7 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY, where funeral services will be held 7:00 PM, with the Rev. Joseph P. Badding officiating, followed full military honors. Inurnment in Acacia Park Cemetery, Town of Pendleton, NY.
