Michael J. Santoro

LEWISTON —

Michael J. Santoro, 75, of Lewiston, NY, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at his residence while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he is the son of Joseph Santoro of Niagara Falls, NY and late Marietta (Capicotto) Santoro.
Michael was a lifelong resident of the Niagara Falls area. He attended local schools including Niagara Falls High School and later Erie County Institute of Technology. Mike served in the United States Air Force from 1955 until his honorable discharge in 1961. He was stationed in Spain as well as other overseas countries, and also represented the Air Force as an accomplished boxer. He married Sandra C. (Batrouny) Santoro in St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in 1979. Mike was the personal guard and chauffeur to the president of the Carborundum Co. in Niagara Falls. He later went on to own and operate his own security company, Star Security for over thirty years. Mike retired from HSBC Bank as an investigator of internal affairs. Mike was an avid sports fan and excelled in every sport he played. In his younger years, he coached youth hockey and in his leisure time enjoyed playing bocce. Mike also loved dancing with his wife, and was a member of the Cedar's Club.
In addition to his wife and father, Mr. Santoro is survived by his five children, Marie Elena (David) Santoro-Wood of Alabama, Anthony (Melody) Chellino of Tennessee, Joseph (Joanne Roberto) Santoro, Nicole Santoro and Michelle Santoro, all of Lewiston, NY and was predeceased by a daughter, Pamela Marie Santoro, and his little angel, Michael Paul Santoro. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carmeline (Attilio) Folino and Nicolette (Robert) Hinderliter, both of Wheatfield, NY; as well as his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; his dear friend, Doug Perry; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by one sister, Elena Lamendola.
