Eileen Camella Theresa Belton

NIAGARA FALLS —

Eileen Camella Theresa (Gaven) Belton, longtime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Crestwood Health Care Facility. She was 90. She was born in Scranton, PA on July 18, 1923, a daughter of the late John A. and Mary (Ginley) Gaven. She attended schools in Pennsylvania and then entered the United States Army in February 1945 where she served as a Surgical Technician until her Honorable Discharge in June of 1948.
Miss Gaven married Goronwy Belton on November 23, 1949 in Hopkinsville, KY and they remained happily married for 28 years until his passing in 1977. Mrs. Belton and her husband moved to Niagara Falls in 1952 where she became a homemaker and began raising her family. She was a longtime member of Prince of Peace Church, and she enjoyed her family, faith and gardening.
She is survived by her three sons, Shawn Belton of Baltimore, MD, Michael (Cynthia) Shauncey Belton of Wheatfield, Patrick Clancy Belton of Niagara Falls; and her daughter, Mary Theresa Belton of Claudville, VA. She is also survived by her siblings, John A. (Jacqueline) Gaven of Hurst, TX, and Anne (James) Philbin of Scranton, PA; eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Mary Helreng.
There will be no prior visitation and a private funeral mass will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Riverdale Cemetery in the Town of Lewiston.
