Thomas R. "Navy" Dworak, Jr.


Thomas R. "Navy" Dworak, Jr., 86, of Grand Island, NY, passed away on Monday, December 17, 2012 in Kenmore Mercy Hospital, Kenmore, NY. Born on January 10, 1926 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Thomas and Antoinette (Depa) Dworak, Sr. and attended local schools.
On July 27, 1944, he entered the US Navy, serving in the 301st and 109th Battalion, receiving the American Theater Medal, Victory Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Medal, being honorably discharged on June 21, 1946. He was a proud to be a member/called a SEABEE. Thomas  was a member of St. Stephen's Church. He and his late wife of forty-seven years, Charlene, owned and operated Niagara Fancy Bakery, first on 12th Street in Niagara Falls, and later on Baseline Rd. on Grand Island. The bakery, which was founded nearly 50 years earlier by Mr. Dworak's father, was operated with the help of other family members until 1980.
He is survived by his children, Thomas Dworak, Patrick (Tracy) Dworak, both of Grand Island, Lesha Tiedemann of Williamsville and Richard (Phyllis) Dworak of Grand Island; his grandchildren, Brittany, Tiffany, Brianne, Matthew, Sydney, Patrick, Thomas, Madison and Tyler; and his sister, Emily Sowa of Niagara Falls. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by his brother, Edwin Dworak; and sister, Stephania Gorzynski.
Friends may call on Thursday, December 20th from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at ZAJAC FUNERAL HOME, INC., 319-24th St., cor. of Welch Ave., Niagara Falls, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 AM on Friday at St. Stephen's Church, 2100 Baseline Rd., Grand Island, NY. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Burial with Military Honors in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Donations in his memory may be made to Disabled American Veterans Memorial Program, P.O. Box 14301 Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
