NIAGARA FALLS —
Michael C. Wilson, died on February 17, 2014, peacefully at his home in Wrobel Tower Apartments. Mike was employed by the Cerebral Palsy Association at the Community Vocational Rehabilitation Center in Niagara Falls. He was a volunteer with a number of local organizations and was a helpful neighbor in the Niagara Falls community, especially for the elderly and handicapped.
Mike was a 1965 graduate of LaSalle High School, and joined the Navy Reserve after graduation. During the Vietnam Era he served on active duty as a Boatswains Mate in the Regular U.S. Navy. He re-enlisted for multiple tours of active duty and served on ships in both the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets. Mike returned to LaSalle where he lived with and cared for his mother, Jean, until her death in 1994. He was known for his kindness, helpfulness, and dry sense of humor. Before being slowed down by health problems, he walked everywhere he went and became a familiar figure in LaSalle and more recently in the North End neighborhood.
"Uncle Mike" is survived by a brother, Howard (Sally Rowe) Wilson of Williamsville; a sister, Myra (Donald) Supon of Niagara Falls; four nieces and nephews: Michael Wilson Stoker of Austin, TX, Martha Wilson Snyder of Albany, Stephen Wilson of Brooklyn and Jocelyn Supon Touma of Niagara Falls, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He donated his body for research to the University at Buffalo School of Medicine. Donations in his name may be made to the Cerebral Palsy Association CVRC or Roswell Park Cancer Institute. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 8th, at Wrobel Tower Apartments, Main Street at Niagara Avenue, Niagara Falls. March 8th would have been Mike's 69th birthday.
