Savilla M. Nicholson Kress


Savilla M. Nicholson Kress, 86, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY. Savilla was born in Buffalo, NY into the loving family of Carl and Lavern (Cullen) Buckreis. After the loss of her parents in 1932, she was adopted from St. Vincent's orphanage by the loving family of Edward and Helen Nicholson of Niagara Falls, NY.
Savilla graduated from Niagara Falls High School and attended the University of Buffalo where she was member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. She was employed as an electrical engineer at DuPont in Niagara Falls, NY for 17 years and was a member of the DuPont Professional Association. She designed and built her treasured family home in Niagara Falls, NY. In 1963, she married Frank Marchildon Kress and remained by his side until his death in 2002. Savilla worked for NL Industries in Niagara Falls, NY and also started her own mail delivery service to Canada. She also served as president of St. Francis Guild of St. Mary's Hospital, and was active in local legislative work, and instrumental in the cleanup of Hyde Park Gill Creek. Savilla was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Lewiston, and enjoyed playing the violin, drums, and teaching Latin dancing. She also enjoyed the many years spent at her family cottage in West Valley, NY.
Mrs. Kress is survived by three children, Dr. Helen Kress of Niagara Falls, NY, Savilla Kress, Jr. of British Columbia, and Frank E. Kress of California; her brother, John (Anne) Buckreis of Washington, DC; cousins, E.R. Baxter III, Brenda Piza, and Katherine Dolanski; and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister-in-law of Edgar (Beverly) Kress of Arizona. She was predeceased by two brothers, Clifford (Harriet of New Mexico) Buckreis and Robert (late Helen) Buckreis; and one sister, Loretta Mosey.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY where funeral services will immediately follow the visitation at 7:00 PM. Private interment in Oakwood Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northeast Kidney Foundation, 110 Broadway St., Buffalo, NY 14203.
