Marjorie I. Bomberry

LEWISTON — Marjorie I. Bomberry, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, March 8, 2013, in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence, Lewiston, NY.

She was formerly a resident of the Tuscarora Indian Reservation, where she was born on March 18, 1921, a member of the Bear Clan. She was the daughter of the late Pomeroy and Laura (Williams) Hewitt.

Marjorie attended Thomas Indian School and was employed at the former Bell Aerospace and later at C. F. Treichler Florist in Sanborn, NY, for 35 years.

In November 1959, she became a member of Order of Eastern Star Ransomville Chapter 374, where she served as Matron on four separate occasions. Within this time frame, she also served as chairman of many functions.

She was a member of Universal Craft of Engineers of KWAHIN Council #10 since 1989, and served as Past Worthy President and Grand Worthy President from 2003 to 2005.

An independent, selfless individual, Marjorie devoted much of her time to helping others and would often assist the less fortunate, as well as WWII veterans. Her greatest joy was cooking and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed doing Indian Bead work, gardening and crafts.

Marjorie was the wife of the late Chester Bomberry, who passed away in 1977, and the late Silas Chew, who died in World War II.

She is survived by her loving children, Wilfred (Michelle) Chew, Sanborn, NY, Cheryl (late George) Ebeling of Alma, MI, Wilton (Marguerite) Bomberry of Ohsweken, ONT, Darlene (Jon) Adams of Niagara Falls, NY, Henry (Shelly) Bomberry of EI Dorado, KS, and she was the mother of the late Jerry Chew of Sanborn, NY; one sister, Immogene Mt. Pleasant of Tuscarora Nation. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Marjorie was the sister of the late Tuscarora Bear Chief Arnold Hewitt; Tuscarora Bear Clan Mother Flora Jacobs, Delores Flinn and Lorraine Jonathan; and by two grandchildren, Patrick Chew and Mason Bomberry.

The family will be present on Sunday from 4-7 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY, where the Ransomville Chapter of OES will conduct a service at 7 PM, followed by a prayer service by Rev. Walter Printup and Rev. Donald Robinson. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:00 AM, at the Tuscarora Baptist Church, 2208 Mount Hope Road, Sanborn, NY, with the Rev. Walter A. Printup, Jr. and Rev. Donald Robinson officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made in her name to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery.
