Phil A. Castiglione, 86, of Hollywood, FL, formerly of Niagara Falls, NY and Lewiston, NY, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his children, and nephew while under the care of Hospice. He was born in Spezzano, Italy to the late Biagio and Letizia (Scarnati) Castiglione.
Phil came to Niagara Falls, NY in the late 1940's and married Mary V. (LoPrete) Castiglione on August 25, 1950. He served in the US Army with the 196th Regiment Combat Team during the Korean War in 1950. In 1953, he was wounded in action, and received an honorable discharge. He was employed with various Chevrolet Dealerships as a Master Mechanic in the Niagara Falls area for 28 years. In 1978, Mr. Castiglione opened Phil's Arco in Niagara Falls, NY which he converted to an AM/ PM Mini Mart which later became an A Plus Convenient Store, which he operated until his retirement in 1993.
In 1993, Phil and his wife, Mary, moved to Hollywood, FL, where they enjoyed their retirement together until Mary's passing on September 23, 2003. After her passing Mr. Castiglione stayed in Hollywood, FL until the present time.
During the 1970's Phil was an active member of the Niagara Falls High School Football Boosters Club. He was also a member of the Christopher Columbo Society in Niagara Falls and the VFW Post in Hallandale, FL. Phil was an avid golfer who enjoyed playing poker with his friends, but most of all loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Castiglione is survived by his two children, Carla Ann Castiglione of Las Vegas, NV and William D (Silvana) Castiglione of Lewiston, NY; four grandchildren, Phil Reinhardt, Gary Reinhardt, both of Las Vegas, NV, Valerie Rose (Marc) Bellanti from Williamsville, and William D (Crystal) Castiglione II from Youngstown; five great-grandchildren, Domonic and Marco Castiglione, Roman, Marc and Ava Marie Bellanti; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by two sisters, Lucia (late Antonio) Scarnati, Faustina (late Raymond) Vence; and one brother, Franco (late Gianina) Castiglione; and special friend, Anna Malarska.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-7 PM at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 22nd at 10:00 AM at St. Peter's Church, 620 Center St., Lewiston, NY, with Rev. Michael Zuffoletto officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Entombment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY with Military Honors.
