AMHERST — Robert D. Wisbaum was born February 10, 1926, son of the late Samuel and Vera Wisbaum. He was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY and enjoyed spending his later years wintering in Florida.

He graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1943. He attended the University of Michigan until entering the U.S. Army Air Force in July 1944. Upon receiving his honorable discharge in July 1946, he resumed his college education at the University of Michigan and then University of Buffalo, where he graduated in June 1948. On June 22, 1948, he married the former Lucille Marie Britman.

He then joined his father in business as Vice President of the Niagara Hardware & Plumbing Supply Company, with his brother, Jerauld, joining the firm in 1955. Upon his father's death in 1963, the business continued with Bob as President and his brother, Jerauld, as Vice President. Bob retired in June 2000 and the business was closed.

Bob was very active in the Jewish and civic community. He served as Co-Chairman of United Jewish Appeal, President of the Jewish Federation of Niagara Falls, Vice President of Temple Beth Israel and Chairman of the Architecture Committee for the construction of Temple Beth Israel on College Avenue. He was a lifelong member of Temple Beth Israel, enjoying religious services on a regular basis. Bob was also a member of B'nai Brith.

Bob served on the Board of Directors of the former Council of Social Agencies and the Board of Directors of the YMCA. He was an active member of the YMCA, playing handball and racquetball. Bob was also an avid tennis player.

Bob was a devoted Buffalo Bills fan, enjoying season tickets for 47 years. He was a member of the Niagara Falls Country Club and a former Masonic Lodge member. He enjoyed theatre, concerts and sporting events. Mostly, Bob was passionate about time spent with his beloved wife and beautiful family.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille and his four sons, Norman and his wife, Netty (Phoenix, AZ), Bruce and his wife, Marianne (Buffalo, NY), Keith and his wife, Gini (Laguna Beach, CA), and Steven and his wife, Suzanne (Charlotte, VT); seven grandchildren, Aimee (Craig), Ashley (Doug), Arielle, Kassi, Mandi, Isabelle and Gabe; as well as several cousins. He was predeceased by brother, Jerauld Wisbaum (survived by Sandy).

Graveside service will take place at Beth Israel Cemetery (on Military Road) on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at 9:30 AM, followed by a memorial service at the Niagara Falls Country Club, to commence at 10:30 AM. Shiva services will take place at the family residence on February 17th and 18th, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Foundation of Palm Beach County at or to a charity of your choice.
