NIAGARA FALLS —
Arthur H. Sterns, longtime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2012, at Schoellkopf Health Care Facility. He was 97. He was born in Glace Bay, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia Canada on April 14, 1915, a son of Charles H.S. and Martha (Martel) Sterns.
Arthur came to Niagara Falls in May 1948 looking for work and became a naturalized citizen in 1952. He worked at Carborundum, Globar Division for 32 years, retiring in 1980.
Mr. Sterns married Edith M. Pledge in 1939 and they remained happily married for 64 years until her passing in 2004.
Mr. Sterns is survived by his daughter, Diane Traver of St. George, Utah and his son, Ronald (Maureen) Sterns of Newfane. He is also survived by his brother, Bruce (June) Sterns of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and his sister, Vera Jones of New Glasco, Nova Scotia; four grandchildren, Michelle Traver of CA; Natalie and Anthony Sterns of Niagara Falls, and Angela (Joshua) Gelyon of Newfane; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by siblings, Eugene, Dorothy and Helen; and daughter-in-law and friend, Tanya (Farulla) Sterns.
There will be no prior visitation and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
