Domnick "Donnie" Travis, 71, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2013 in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of Leona M. (LaFreniere) Travis of Niagara Falls, NY and late Philip J. Travis, Sr.
Donnie was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls. He attended local schools and graduated from the former Trott Vocational High School. For twenty-two years, Donnie served in the United States Air Force from June 13, 1961 until his honorable discharge as a Senior Master Sergeant on September 30, 1983. During that time he attended the Community College of the Air Force where he studied aircraft maintenance scheduling and mechanics. Throughout the Vietnam War, and his military career, Donnie served as a B-52 Jet Aircraft mechanic and F-16 Aircraft scheduling specialist, and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal,Vietnam Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters and Air Force Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters.
Following his discharge from the Air Force, Donnie began working for General Dynamics Services Company, currently Lockheed Martin, overseas as an instrument panel and maintenance system instructor in Thailand, Pakistan, Hawaii and Saudi Arabia. Donnie was currently employed by the Niagara Falls Board of Education in the custodial department. He was also a lifetime member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars (VFW) # 917.
In addition to his mother and wife of nineteen years, Hendrawati P. "Hendra" (Prayogo) Travis, whom he married in Indonesia on May 22, 1993, Mr. Travis is survived by six children, Mark A. (Cindy) Travis of Las Vegas, NV, Nancy R. (Paul C.) Johnson of Baker City, OR, Lynn M. Byrnie of Holmesdale, PA, Wendy S. (Larry) Pray III of Las Vegas, NV, Ayu Travis of Grand Island, NY and Clearesta Travis of Niagara Falls, NY; fourteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Donna (Steve) Listek of Tracy, CA, Debbie Howes of Las Vegas, NV; two brothers, Philip J. Travis, Jr. and Dan (Lori) Travis, both of Niagara Falls, NY; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 PM at the M.J. COLUCCI AND SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 4th at 10:30 AM with Rev. Stewart Lindsay, O.S.F.S. officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to the US Veterans Administration.
