LEWISTON — Joan I. (nee Gardner) Padlo, 78, of Niagara Falls, NY, wife of the late Gerald "Jerry" Padlo, passed from this life on Sunday, May 12, 2013 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, NY, following a lengthy illness. Born on March 17, 1935 in Philipsburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late James and Victoria (Watchey) Gardner.

Joan attended schools in both Pennsylvania and Niagara Falls, NY. She graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1954 and later earned her degree in Business Administration from Bryant & Stratton College. For over 30 years, Joan was employed as a supply technician for the United States Government, where she retired in the early 1990s while working for the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) program at Niagara         University.  She attended Niagara Alliance Church in North Tonawanda, NY. Joan loved spending time with her family, which was the most important aspect of her life. She also enjoyed bingo and going to the casino.

Joan is survived by two children, Cheryl (late Michael) Karnatz and Wayne Gardner, both of Niagara Falls, NY; two grandchildren, Michael Karnatz and Michelle Karnatz Smith, both of  Niagara Falls, NY and five great-grandchildren, Briana, Michael, Desmond, Anthony and Lacie.  She is also survived by five siblings, Genevieve (late Robert) Hoffman of Pennsylvania, Patricia (David) Kline of Niagara Falls, NY, James Gardner of Pennsylvania, Janet Haynes of Niagara Falls, NY, and Alice (Bruce) Moll of Niagara Falls, NY; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will be present to receive friends on Thursday from 5-8 PM in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (716-297-9007), where a funeral service will immediately follow visitation at 8:00 PM, with Rev. Daniel Piazza officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Alliance Church, 7041 Witmer Road, North Tonawanda, NY 14120.
