George R. "Rod" Giles

BUFFALO — George R. "Rod" Giles, of the Town of Lockport, NY, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2013, in  Sisters of Charity Hospital, Buffalo, NY.

He was born in Gratz, KY, on May 3, 1932, the son of the late Jacob and Georgia (Stamper) Giles.

Rod graduated with a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Kentucky. He served as Captain in the US Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed at Griffs Air Base in Rome, NY in the Reserves.

Although a modest man he was an accomplished engineer who held many patents and retired from DRS Technologies. He took great pride in mentoring young engineers and was highly regarded by his peers.

Rod is survived by his wife of 51 years, Irene (Blundy) Giles to whom he was devoted. He was a most patient and wonderful father to Pamela (Christopher) Jadoch and grandfather to Alexandra Jadoch. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of memorials, prayers and good thoughts are gratefully appreciated. Private funeral services were held at the wishes of his family. Entombment with military honors were in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Arrangements were made through the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, LEWISTON, NY.
