Helen S. Schoninger

LEWISTON —

Helen S. Schoninger, of Lewiston, NY, passed away in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence on Wednesday, March 26, 2014. She was born in Medina, NY, on September 9, 1918, the daughter of the late Claude A. and Anna A. (Hayes) Sinclair.
Mrs. Schoninger received her Bachelor's Degree in Education at Buffalo State College, and later her Master's at Niagara University. A lifelong educator, she served the Niagara Falls School District for 35 years. After many years of teaching at the elementary school level, she went on to become the Principal at 99th Street and at Beech Avenue Schools. She also briefly served in administration before retiring in 1985. Mrs. Schoninger will be remembered for her warmth, enthusiasm and dedication. She was an active member of St. John de LaSalle Parish.
Mrs. Schoninger is survived by her loving son, Paul A. (Andrea) Schoninger of Lexington, KY; six grandchildren, Christopher (Carla), Timothy, Patrick (Lisa) and Michael Mackenna, Claire and  Geoffrey Schoninger; five great-grandchildren, Kalie, Megan, Allison, Dylan and Layla Mackenna. Also many dear family members and friends. She was the beloved mother of the late Patricia Schoninger Mackenna; and sister of the late Robert Sinclair.
The family will be present on Sunday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY, where funeral services will be held on Monday at 9:15 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. John de LaSalle Church, 8477 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY, with the Rev. Slawomir Siok officiating. Memorials may be made in her name to a charity of one's choice. Entombment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
