Louis "Louie" P. Hutchinson

FERNANDINA BEACH, FL — Louis "Louie" P. Hutchinson, age 87, of Fernandina Beach, FL, passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2012 in Fernandina Beach, FL.

Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was one of eight children born to the late Morton and Mary Richie Hutchinson. After growing up in Niagara Falls, at the age of 17, he entered the U.S. Navy and served during WW II in the South Pacific. In June of 1949 he met his future wife, Shirley Patricia Holmes, in Niagara Falls. They were married in 1949. In 1950, Mr. Hutchinson joined E.I. DuPont as a Chemical Operator in Niagara Falls. He worked with DuPont for the next 33 years, retiring as Foreman in 1983. In 1985, the Hutchinson's moved to Anderson, SC before coming to Fernandina Beach, on Amelia Island, FL in 2002. Mr. Hutchinson enjoyed gardening, was an accomplished woodworker and all around "Handiman". He made doll beds for his granddaughters, a replica of Noah's Ark for his grandchildren and the Cross for St. George's Episcopal Church in Anderson, SC. While living in Anderson, he sang with the "Harmonizers", a Barbershop Quartet and St. George's Choir.

Mr. Hutchinson had been a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church and Epiphany Episcopal Church in Niagara Falls, as well as St. George's Episcopal Church in Anderson, where he was a lay reader and chalice bearer. Upon moving to Amelia Island, the Hutchinson's joined St. Peter's Episcopal Church of Fernandina Beach.

Preceding him in death were two sisters, Pauline Hutchinson Johnson and Ada Hutchinson May; as well as four brothers, George, Charlie, Walter and Richard Hutchinson.           

Mr. Hutchinson leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Shirley Holmes Hutchinson; their two daughters, Ellen Louise Williams Griffiths (Paul), Yulee, FL; Patricia Anne Hartman, Fort Collins, CO; three grandchildren, Sarah Williams, Jennifer Williams, Sinden Law, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Bertha Bubar Sanchez (William), Anderson, SC; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 11, 2012 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley Heard, with The Reverend Carolyn Murdoch of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, officiating. Mr. Hutchinson's family will receive friends on Thursday at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until the hour of service. He will be laid to rest in Arcadia Cemetery, Buffalo, NY.
