Robert H. Greenberg

WESTBOROUGH, MA — Robert H. Greenberg, of Westborough, MA, passed away, peacefully, on September 30, 2012.  He was predeceased by his loving wife of 32 years, Cathy Greenberg. He is survived by three children, Ron Greenberg, David Greenberg and Maria Greenberg; three step-children, Christy Belli, John Campi and Beth Campi; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; his best friend of over 50 years, Tony Girasole of Lewiston, NY. He was born in Boston, MA, on September 5, 1924, a 5th generation New Englander. He grew up in Niagara Falls and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1942. He joined the US Merchant Marines four days after graduation. After the war he attended Niagara University.

He was a veteran of World War ll and achieved the rank of Lieutenant SG in the U.S. Merchant Marines, where he served for six years. He received war medals for service in The Atlantic War Zone, The Pacific War Zone, The Mediterranean-Middle East War Zone-The New York Medal for Conspicuous Service.

In Niagara Falls he was President of Greenberg Realty Corp., LaSalle Village Builders and   Fallsway Builders & Developers. He was the only Niagara area realtor to have been elected President of the New York State Assoc. of Realtors, and President of the New York State Realtors   Commercial-Investment Division. He was named Realtor Emeritus in 1997, and achieved the Professional Designation of CCIM awarded Emeritus designation and Life Member status in 1989.

He had served as an officer of the Niagara Falls Area Board of Realtors, a Reg. V.P. of the Realtor's National Marketing Institute for NY-PA-NJ, a Lifetime Director of the NY State Association of  Realtors, and named New York State Realtor of the Year. A State Director also of the Georgia & Florida Assoc. of Realtors. Served on the Realtors National Association Legislative Committee for 10 years; chaired its Housing Sub Comm. and was a  Realtors Institute Senior instructor for New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Georgia and Florida. ln the Niagara Falls area, he served on the Executive Comm. of the Chamber of Commerce, the Portage District-Boy Scouts of America, Vice-President of Temple Beth El, President of Interfaith Housing Corp., replaced William Wendell on the Executive Committee of Niagara Frontier Housing Development Corp., which developed over 2,600 units of housing for lower income families in Western New York in the early 1970s; chaired Mayor Lackey's Housing Committee and served on the Executive Committee of The Niagara Falls Human Rights Commission.

He left the Falls area in 1979 to move to Atlanta, GA, and was CEO of Coldwell Banker Real Estate Investment Services for the South East US. ln the mid-80s he moved to the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale area as CEO of Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate for South Florida. In the late 1980s, he and his wife Cathy formed a company that represented a number of northern banks in the exclusive marketing of their REO properties throughout the country. They retired in South Florida in 1996.

They enjoyed traveling in their R.V. and visited all 49 continental states, and every province and territory in Canada. They had lived in South Florida for 26 years before moving back to the Atlanta area in 2007, and in 2010 moved to Massachusetts. His wife, Cathy, passed away on May 24, 2011, and was interred in the Massachusetts National Veterans Cemetery, where she will be joined by her husband for all eternity.
