Frances M. Genovese

NIAGARA FALLS —

Frances M. (DeBiase) Genovese, longtime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence. She was 105. She was born in Shawmut, PA on June 9, 1908, a daughter of the late Donato and Vincenza (Giovanelli) DeBiase. She attended schools in Pennsylvania and then moved to Niagara Falls in 1926.
Mrs. Genovese married Anthony Genovese in 1935 and they remained happily married for 56 years until his passing in 1991. She worked at Wallens Men's Store, Beir Brothers Department Store and other Niagara Falls businesses. She was a longtime member of St. John de LaSalle Church, and was a charter member of the St. John's Seniors, was a member of the Marthas and the Rosary Altar Society, and was the St. John Senior Travel Director. She enjoyed traveling and her time with her family.
Mrs. Genovese is survived by her three children, Marie (late Vincent) Chiarenza, Antoinette "Anne" (late William) Scalzo, and Joan (William) Paterson, all of Niagara Falls; siblings, Donald (Jane) DeBiase of Las Vegas, NV, and Grace (late Richard) Cain of McHenry, Illinois. Mrs. Genovese is also survived by nine grandchildren, Julie (Anthony) Kunecki, Kathy (Frank) Faso, Lori (Lyle) Chandler, William Scalzo, David (Peggy) Scalzo, Lynne Scalzo, Steven (Jamie) Scalzo, William (Jennifer) Paterson, Jeffrey (Michele) Paterson; fourteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by siblings, James, John, Patrick, Ben, Louis, and Joseph DeBiase, and Evelyn Giusto and Eleanor Cicero.
Friends may call at the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, TODAY (Friday) from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John de LaSalle Church, 8477 Buffalo Avenue on Saturday at 10:00 AM. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT THE CHURCH. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, 3806 Pine Avenue. If desired, donations may be made to St. John de LaSalle Church.
