Anthony Joseph DiChiara, Sr.


Anthony Joseph DiChiara, Sr., 87, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Rochester General Hospital. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Joseph and Sarah (Calato) DiChiara. He was the husband of Elizabeth (Falsetti) DiChiara, married on June 23, 1951 at Our Lady of Lebanon Church in Niagara Falls, NY.
Anthony was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY, attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1943. In 1948 he earned a Bachelor's degree at Niagara University, followed by master degrees in Education. He had a long and fulfilling career in education in the Niagara Falls school system as a teacher, guidance counselor and vice-principal at Gaskill Junior High School and principal at North Junior High School, retiring in 1982. He was a local realtor, taught real estate license classes at Niagara County Community College and Niagara University, and was the assessor for the Town of Cambria. He was involved in several civic organizations in the community. Anthony enjoyed gardening, travel and spending time with his adoring grandchildren.
In addition to his beloved wife of 62 years, he is survived by four children: Elizabeth DiChiara-Murphy of Miami, Florida, Patricia (Stephen) Carter of Ellicott City, Maryland, Anthony J. (Catherine) DiChiara, Jr., of Jensen Beach, Florida and Sarah (Anthony) Leone of Webster, New York. He was predeceased by two sons, Joseph Anthony DiChiara and David Anthony DiChiara. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Melissa and Caitlin Murphy; Candace DiChiara; Andrew, Patrick and Rachel Carter; A.J., Michael and Nicholas Leone; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no prior visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at 11:00 AM in St. Raphael's Church, 3840 Macklem Ave., Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. David Griffin officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers, if desired, memorial donations may be made to Niagara University in memory of Anthony J. DiChiara, Sr., P.O. Box 2008, Niagara University, NY 14109. Arrangements by M.J.
